Many Japanese think of speaking and talking English as difficult. Actually, as for Japanese applicants’ TOEFL, speaking tends to be the lowest score among 4 sections. 

 

However, speaking skills become better as you practice. It means that the delivery of your English becomes easy to understand. More and more your speaking skill improves, you feel confident.

 

As we advised in listening, the starting point of speaking practice should be simple phrases. The following are what we recommend:

 

My parents and I plan to visit Universal Studio Japan in summer vacation.

My favorite subject is Physical Education because I like sports, especially baseball.

 

You do not need to speak these like a native English speaker. You may be concerned about your pronunciation, intonation, and syllable in your speaking, but anyone can make mistakes in speaking a foreign language. Learning can be said as imitating. Do not worry!

 

If you practice speaking English every day or every second day for 10 minutes, your English will be much better. As our motto, perfect is the enemy of learning English, you can go next.

 

If possible, practicing together with parents, brothers or sisters is a very nice idea. It makes your practice fun.

Hop is shadowing⭐︎

Shadowing is an effective and efficient language learning training for speaking as well as for listening. It is a nice step that you learn basic phrases by shadowing them.

 

You need to move your mouth, lip, tongue, and facial muscles differently between English and Japanese. As such, your speaking may not clear voice at first, but it is one step in the process of mastering English speaking. You do not worry about the slow improvement at all.

 

Your speaking will be better if you continue to practice shadowing. For example, when you practice “I get on the bus,” a native narrator often tells it by connecting bus and on like one word. Shadowing includes imitating not only sentences themselves but also pronunciations, intonations, and syllables. 

 

As, on, off, in, at, and about are often connected with the previous word as one word. Practicing these will make your speaking more natural.

 

As your shadowing go well with the audio, your listening skill will improve in addition to speaking skill. Our website almost always has both paragraph and audio so that you can do shadowing.​​

基本定型文はシャドーイング⭐︎

シャドーイングはスピーキングにも最適です。シャドーイングで基本的な例文は覚えてしまいましょう！

​

英語と日本語では口の形は筋肉の使い方が異なるものがあります。そのため、スピーキング練習をしても初期の頃は思うように話せなくて自信を失いがちです。

​

スピーキングは続けていれば必ず上達します。

例えば、

Get on the busを「ゲット オン ザ バス」と単語ごとに区切って発音すると少し不自然な感じがします。

​

シャドーイングで聞こえた内容をそのまま真似すると「ゲトン　ザバス」というように聞こえてきます。（決してカタカナ英語で覚えないでください）。

​

英語の前置詞には on, in, of, at, about, above など母音で始まるものが、これらは前の単語の終わりとくっ付いて発音することが珍しくありません。

​

他にも、out, up, awayなど副詞の中にも同じことが言えますので、ネイティブがどのように区切っているか確認しながらシャドーイングを練習してみてください。

I like English class in my junior high school because English class is the most enjoyable for me. As one of my dreams is to work for a global company, I know English is important. When I traveled to Singapore last year, I practiced English through visiting many famous spots.

 

There are many English skills such as reading, listening, speaking, and Writing. I like writing English among them, so I write a diary in English every day. It is good training for learning vocabulary, grammar, and phrases. 

 

I am happy to learn new English words because I can write longer sentences with them.

 

 

Questions2.

Answer whether you agree or disagree with the following statement. Then explain your reasons using specific details in your argument. 

 

Teachers should assign daily homework to students.

 

 

I agree with the statement. The idea of giving children homework is beneficial for students.   I have two reasons for my opinion. 

 

My first reason is that doing homework helps children remember what they learn for a longer time. Repeat their learning by doing homework supports them to learn in the next class. This kind of study will lead to a lot more academic success in the life future.

 

The other reason is that homework can give children an opportunity to study with their parents. When I was in elementary school, I did a lot of daily homework. That was a happy time learning with my mother and father. I could ask them questions whenever I was having trouble. We became closer to each other.

 

 

Question 3. 

Where do you want to travel? You speak your answer in 45 seconds.

 

I wish to travel to Singapore. Singapore is a great place to travel in Southeast Asia. It takes 7 hours from Tokyo to Singapore. This country offers travelers with world-class hotels and many eating options. Also, Singapore is a multi-cultural country. Travelers can experience various Asian cultures such as Indian culture, Chinese culture, and Vietnamese culture. 

 

Singapore is a compact metropolitan country friendly to travelers. We can visit many spots by subway and taxi at a reasonable cost. I would like to visit Gardens by the Bay. This garden offers beautiful views. I look forward to traveling there.

There are many cities for travel, but Tokyo should be one of the most popular cities for travelers from overseas. You can enjoy Japanese foods from casual dishes to traditional cuisine. As the capital of Japan, many people live in Tokyo region. That is why trains are very crowded with commuters during the morning and evening. 

 

Many travelers also visit Mount Fuji, which the highest mountain in Japan. It takes 3 hours to get to the mountain from Tokyo by train or bus. I am sure you will be amazed at the beautiful mountain. There is one caution. The climbing season is from July to September only. If you are a climber, please travel there during summer. 

 

I am happy to live in Tokyo, Japan, because it is clean, safe, and convenient. The city provides me with a lot of options for learning too.
